What To Do If You Miss Your Court Appearance

Missing a court appointment can have serious consequences, but it's not the end of the world. Here are some steps to help you manage the situation and prevent further legal complications.

Step 1: Contact the Court ASAP (Fix it}

When you realize that you've missed a court hearing, it is crucial to take immediate action. Contact the Court, Attorney and Bondsman as soon as possible and explain your situation. Being incarcerated, institutionalized or in the hospital are legal reasons for missing court. Depending on the reason for your absence, the court may reschedule your case. In some cases, you might need to hire an attorney who can present a strong case on your behalf. Whatever the situation, coodinate with your Bondsman.


Step 2: Address the Warrant {Find them}

Failing to appear in court often leads to the issuance of a bench warrant. This authorizes law enforcement to arrest you and bring you before the court. If you know a warrant has been issued, it's advisable to turn yourself in. Before doing so, contact your Bondsman to schedule the surrender.

Step 3: Paying the Bonds {Pay}

After attempting to fix and/or find them fail. The Bonds must be paid. This responsibility is passed on to the Indemnitor/Co-signer. Missing a court hearing might lead to increased fines, penalties, and even jail terms. In severe cases, you could be held in jail until the court.


In summary, 1: Make all attempts to fix it first. 2: If it can't be fixed, find them. 3: If 1 and 2 fail. Pay the Bonds.
